Impulsive-compulsive spectrum disorders represent a major challenge for mental health professionals. Empirical evidence indicates that these patients often have high relapse and dropout rates from traditional therapies. Thanks to new technologies, therapeutic tools have begun to be implemented that have been shown to increase the efficacy of traditional strategies. From this innovative perspective, e-Estesia has been developed, an application (app) that works as a complement to standard cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in impulsive-compulsive spectrum disorders.
Solution
E-Estesia, an application (app) that works as a complement to standard cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in impulsive-compulsive spectrum disorders.
Objective
Main objective: To obtain information on the social, problematic and pathological gambling habits of people aged 65 years and older from the general population (Study Y). Two cohorts of individuals within the age range of the study will be selected. The first will be made up of subjects from the general-community population and the second will be of clinical origin (consecutive subjects within this age range who consult the Pathological Gambling Unit of the University Hospital of Bellvitge). In this clinical group, in addition, an intensive intervention (Study II) oriented to the improvement of emotional regulation (3 weeks of duration) with a therapeutic video game (VJ) will be carried out (6 sessions), prior to the start of the usual treatment, to which patients will be consecutively assigned (VJ vs. control condition).
